ORIGIN
Origin begins with a scenic, tranquil shot; the calm before the storm. The sound of crashing waves is overlaid, this is a relaxing peaceful sound. Narrative conflict is used here, as this is such a beautiful setting with such an ugly story.

The underwater shots add to the peaceful tone of the film, however the music in the background builds the tension.
The next shot is a hand under water, moving slowly as though the body is peacefully floating. Symbolic Code is used here, as the viewer begins to wonder why there is a body floating in the cold water. This clip is slightly slowed down, which creates a bigger build up when the hand is snatched out the water.
We can see the main protagonist jump out of the water in this shot, this is in time with the suspense music which adds tension and a bigger reaction when she appears. This comes as a shock to viewers - Who is she? Why is she in the water? Why is she so scared? Why is she dressed like that?
The actress is clearly very confused and distressed, this is shown through her facial expressions, the differing shot types and her posture. She is crouched up, shivering and clearly afraid.
Some time passes, this is portrayed by the several different shot types snd different angles.
The main protagonist can then be seen running through different landscapes. Although it appears to be shot in the same place, these are two different locations, about a fifteen minute car journey apart. We gave the illusion meabh ran home by filming lots of shots in the two different location, and blended them together.
The audience is led to believe that Meabh has just run 'home'. It becomes apparent to the viewer that the place the main protagonist has run to holds some kind of significance, as it is obvious from her facial expressions, and sound that something is up. The sounds that Meabh would have once associated with her old home are overlaid, at an almost uncomfortable pitch. The house would of once been in a small village, so these are the kind of noises we are hearing; farm animals, peoples voices and children's laughter.
A 360 Degree shot is used here, circling around meabh to show both her emotion and her location.
The film ends with the main protagonist slowly approaching the house, this is POV shot and we can see her blinking, shaking and we can hear her heavy breathing, all indicating that she is terrified. The eery setting of this derelict cottage sets the tone for the rest of the film.
