Why did we choose the name Steve? 

When choosing the name for Ethan's character, our main intention was to think of a very typical name for the type of persona we wanted Ethan's character to portray. We pictured Steve to be a bit of stereotypical builder from Belfast and we thought the name Steve captures this personality perfectly. 

Steve's Story 

Steve is not as caring as Mick, as his character isn't as keen on helping Dawn, he is hesitant about entering the room at first, and even after seeing Dawn's state he is still willing to leave her. He doesn't show much compassion or bravery and doesn't seem to interested about solving the mystery that is Dawn. He appears somewhat selfish at first, but as the plot deepens his more compassionate side can be seen. Steve is the one who first discovers the ear piece in Dawn's ear, but is hesitant to pull it out, questioning what the after effects would be. Again, this shows Steve isn't the bravest of characters, and steps back letting Mick take control. When Dawn drops to the ground Steve is clearly alarmed, and he is the one that questions whether the ear piece had something to do with Dawn's death. When Mick goes into a trance similar to Dawn's, he is clearly very overwhelmed and steps out of the room. He shows he cares more about his friend then he did about Dawn as he steps back in to help Mick much more willingly than he did for Dawn, only to find Mick has been replaced by a small child. 

Casting Steve 

When casting our characters, we didn't have the money to pay them so we turned to a Facebook group, putting out a casting call for non-paid acting work. We had several responses but felt no one was suitable for the role. We began thinking of people we could use that we already know, which is when we thought of Ethan. Ethan is Anna's neighbour, and we knew he was interesting in acting and he is taking drama as one of his A-Level subjects at school. We thought he would be interested in some experience, and when we reached out he was more than happy to help. As we are using Anna's house for filming, it couldn't be any handier as Ethan lives next door. This solved issues such as travel, and seeing Ethan is also a student, our schedules matched up perfectly. We all agreed Ethan had the correct look and attitude to play the character of Steve.
